Our Facility

We pride ourselves on making our facility feel like a second home — a true place for peace, comfort, and warmth. Our facility is equipped to provide you and your family with only the very best and we invite you to explore all that we have to offer.

Ertel Funeral Home has been in its current location since completing the construction of the building in 1936. The building’s design and outer appearance possess many elements of the Mission style. Located in downtown Cortez, Ertel Funeral Home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is centrally located near numerous churches, and is 3 miles from the Cortez Cemetery.

The chapel at Ertel Funeral Home has been remodeled to accommodate traditional services as well as celebrations of life, family gatherings, and informal goodbyes. Seating is available for up to 150 and the chairs can be arranged in any fashion to meet the needs of the families we serve. The chapel has been updated with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment to facilitate the personalization of the service chosen. On the east wall of the chapel is a lighted panel of colored glass showing a ship setting out to sea. Underneath is a verse from “Crossing the Bar” by Tennyson. This stained glass memorial has remained in Ertel Funeral Home’s chapel through many remodels and style changes.

The facility at Ertel Funeral Home offers many amenities. Families choosing Ertel Funeral Home have access to a private conference/arrangement office, handicap-accessible entrance and restrooms, private family and viewing rooms, and ample parking around the facility.
