William Thomas "Tom" Hill

WILLIAM THOMAS “TOM” HILL Funeral services for William Thomas Hill a resident of Cortez will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Reverend Jonathan Bland of the New Hope Ministries will officiate. Visitation has been set for Monday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. at the Ertel Chapel. Tom was born at Willow, Oklahoma on Aug. 28, 1920 the son of Claud B. Hill and Stella M. (Uptergrove) Hill. He passed away at the Heart Hospital of N.M. on Wednesday, June 30, 2004. Tom was 83 years old. On Aug. 5, 1940 in Carter, Okla., Tom married Hazel Fritts. Together the couple has shared 63 years of marriage. Tom worked as a City Fireman for the Clovis, N.M. fire department. He achieved the rank of Captain during his employment there. Tom also enjoyed driving trucks on long hauls and working on cars. Surviving Tom are his beloved wife, Hazel of Cortez; and two daughters, Claudean Jones and husband, Neal of Dove Creek, and Sue Carothers and husband, Frank of Glendale, Ariz. His four grandchildren, Neal Jones Jr. and wife, Machelle of Dove Creek, Monica Holt and husband, Dennis of Peoria, Ariz., David Carothers of Portland, Ore., and Steve Carothers of Phoenix, Ariz. also survive Tom.
