Susan Eileen Durall

August 2, 1947 — December 25, 2025

Cortez, Colorado

A Celebration of Life for Susan Eileen Durall will be held at a later date.

Susan was born August 2, 1947, in the old Johnson Building in Cortez, Colorado. The daughter of Homer Sellard and Gayle (Hadley) Sellard. She passed away on Christmas day surrounded by family in her home she loved, at the age of 77.

Susie was a devout Christian, loving wife and mother, doting grandmother and an avid horse enthusiast. She met the love of her life Gerald Durall in Cortez and they married November 15, 1964. They soon welcomed their first son Gerry on June 20, 1965, and shortly after becoming a family of three, began stockcar racing at their local track. Susie was known to be quite the driver with her love for speed and her ability to be fearless and fierce while behind the wheel. She accumulated 30 trophies and 3 Driver of the Year awards during her racing career. Finally, after Gerry begged for a baby brother (and even offered to pay for one himself) they welcomed their second son, Stephen, 9 years later February 11, 1974 on Gerald's birthday.

Now as a family of four the chaos grew with the boys keeping Susie on her toes, but she managed to keep a steady hand throughout. Gerald worked away in Alaska as a mechanic and Susie ran the home. She also maintained an active social life with the Christian Women's Club and participating in local rodeo events with the Colorado Hoofbeats. Her love for horses grew from riding with some of their family friends, Slim and Dolly Cox. They would often spend weekends taking trail rides together, learning about old Indian ruins, thanks to Gerald and Slim's love of history. On the occasional overnight ride, Susie would wake up early to get herself dolled up because as she would say, "pretty is as pretty does and she doesn't do much with her hair smashed against her head."

Susie was known for having deep friendships (along with delicious pies) throughout her friends circle. She brought quite a few friends and family to the Lord and took great pride in doing so. Her and Gerald found God seven years after they married and have maintained a close relationship with him ever since. Susie was also gifted in public speaking which she did often with the Christian Women's Club. One of her more notorious stories she told to the ladies was about a casserole and a dog. She would be thrilled to tell you her cooking got exponentially better and she probably still doesn't like that dog.

Surviving Susie are her spouse Gerald Curtis Durall of Cortez, Colorado; her children, Gerry (Cindy) Durall and Stephen (Veronica) Durall of Cortez; grandchildren Erica (Chris) Lewis, Kerri (David) Beattie, Andrew (Angela) Durall, Hadley (Thomas McCoy) Durall, Alivia Durall; great grandchildren Braden and Levi Rust, Kadance and Ashton Orr, Veronica Durall, Eva McCann, Elizabeth Durall, Cash Durall, Ryker Hampton and Navy McCoy.  She is preceded in death by her parents.
