A funeral mass will be held for Stacy Lee Marrs Stramel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8 at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church in Cortez. A rosary will precede the mass at 9:30.
Stacy Lee Marrs was born on November 16, 1955 in Houston, Texas, the eldest of Shirley and Jack Marrs’ three children. She passed away on September 16 after a brief illness.
Stacy graduated from Aldine Senior High School in Houston in 1974, where she was newspaper editor and a member of the National Honor Society.
On May 1, 1975 she married the love of her life, John Stramel, and immediately moved to Denver, Colorado. Their son Jason (Jay) Kyle Stramel was born there on September 1, 1977. The family moved to Cortez in 1982.
During their 50-year marriage Stacy and John loved to travel, especially driving vacations. They were always looking for a new road to travel. National parks were favorite destinations, but they traveled throughout the U.S. and enjoyed many trips abroad with family and friends.
The couple made their home in Montezuma County for more than 40 years. They were both life partners and business partners.
Stacy joined the Montelores Catholic Community in April 2012. Her Catholic faith and her church community were central to her life.
Those who knew Stacy remember her as a devoted wife and mother, a lover of animals, creative, generous, endlessly hospitable, and a great cook whose kitchen was always “open.”
Stacy is survived by her husband John (Lewis); their son Jay (Broomfield); her brother and sister-in-law Scott and Danette Marrs (Sparks, OK); her sister and brother-in-law Pamela and Dennis Borak (Bremond, TX); 9 nephews and 1 niece; and the extended Stramel family, who embraced and loved her as their own. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.
