Sorena Carol Uptain Beals-Wilson passed away at the age of 76 on July 19, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, CO. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was a lifelong resident of Lewis, CO. Carol was born December 19, 1945 in Durango, CO to Clarence Rueben and Lula Belle (Maslen) Uptain. Her dad, Clarence, called her “My little Cherokee”.
Carol was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints May 23, 1959 with her mother Lula Belle. She loved serving in the church. Some of her greatest memories were serving the Relief Society sisters. Carol married Melvin Beals November 25, 1961. From that union 4 wonderful children were born, Gina, Teresa, Stacey, and Dusty. They were the joy in her life. She was so proud of what each one brought to her life. There wasn’t a day that went by that she didn’t express her love for them. Carol married Richard Wilson July 30, 1992. Dick has a daughter Deborah. She gained more family to cherish and share her wisdom with.
Carol was full of life. She loved people. She never met a stranger. She would say that she was shy, but she had the ability to make everyone feel loved and valued. Carol loved to give hugs and she had a big heart filled with love. Carol loved to travel and see the country. She was a fun traveling buddy! She loved the mountains. Carol loved to fish and camp. She didn’t have to catch a fish to enjoy fishing. She loved throwing her line in and just waiting. She loved wild animals. She was always looking for deer and had an eye to pick them out miles away. She loved flowers. Sweet peas and sunflowers were favorites, but any type of flower would put a smile on her face. In fact, her favorite sayings were “Take time to smell the roses” and “Don’t overlook an orchid while searching for a rose.”
Carol loved working with children. That love brought her to driving a bus for most of her life. She has been the first person a lot of children saw each morning as they left their house. She always had a smile and a good morning for them. She was Transportation Director for many years and loved the people she worked with.
Carol was so proud of her grandchildren. She wouldn’t hesitate to let you know that she had 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Every chance she would get she would spend as much time with them as possible.
Surviving Carol are her loving spouse, Richard Wilson of Lewis, CO; her children, Gina Marriott (Randy) of Mesa, AZ, Teresa Clark (Les) of College Station, TX, Stacey Corbin (Craig) of Chandler, AZ, Dusty Beals (Radiance) of Hesperus, CO, and Deborah Snead (Mark) of Cortez, CO; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
