Memorial Mass for Cortez resident Rudolpho Eugene ‘Rudy’ Maestas will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez, CO. Inurnment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
Rudy was born at home in McPhee, CO July 15, 1938 the son of Joseph Belliarmo and Caroline Ophelia (Archuleta) Maestas. He lost his battle with Parkinson’s at the age of 84 on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Vista Grande surrounded by his wife, children, siblings, and extended family.
Rudy grew up playing on the river with his big brothers, Lawrence and David. Later two little sisters were added, Dorothy and Marcie. Rudy enjoyed cars, buying and selling them, showing them off, and even working on them with his father at the Chevrolet Garage early in his career. In 1960 Rudy married Eva Davis. To this union was born Rudy Jr, Kevin, and Kim. In 1966 he began working at the Cortez Post Office. Over his 30-year career his routs covered all of Cortez. He retired in 1992. After this his love of cars led him to become a salesman at car lots all around town. In 2006 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He fought through this for 16 years.
Rudy was very well loved around town and made many friends throughout the years. He will be missed dearly.
Surviving Rudy are his loving wife Eva Davis Maestas of Cortez, CO; his children, Rudy Maestas Jr. of Cortez, CO, Kevin Maestas of Grand Junction, CO, and Kim Maestas of Bellevue, WA; his siblings, Lawrence Maestas of Grand Junction, CO, David Maestas (Fran) of Cortez, CO, Dorothy O’Bryant (Larry) of Frankton, IN, Marcie Roundtree (Wes) of Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda, Rikki, Ryland, Nico, Shanae, and Andre; and six great grandchildren, Aubrie, Hayden, Payten, Randyn, Lyla, and Ryatt.
