Rubie was born on March 4, 1971, in Cortez, Colorado. She was the fourth child of Laurna and Bruce Gray. She passed away after a lengthy illness on July 21, 2025, surrounded by family, in Durango, Colorado. She was 54 years old.
In Rubie’s childhood and into her twenties she traveled around frequently. In her travels she met, married and divorced Shane Izad. She finally returned and settled down in the Cortez area in the early 2000’s with her family; where she spent her remaining days.
She was a caregiver to her parents, as well as a loving sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend to many.
Rubie enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her dog Dixie. She was an avid rock collector. She enjoyed crafting, camping, nature and walks along the local rivers and lake shores. Rubie was baptized in the Mormon Church.
She fought many battles in her life, including; addiction, mental illness, homelessness, liver disease and her final battle with cancer. Rubie’s wish to be cremated was honored.
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints chapel on East Empire Street in Cortez, Colorado.
Rubie leaves behind her two sons, Scott (Sammie) Guzman-Gray of Cortez, Colorado and Michael (Abby) Izad-Gray of Cleveland, Ohio. Her grandchildren; Tyler, Zoey, Raylynn, Isaiah, and Kiki. Her siblings; Laurinda Gray, Oralee (Andy) Gassner, Naomi (Kelly) Loveall, and Angel Sanchez all of Cortez, Colorado.
Rubie is preceded in death by her parents Laurna and Bruce Gray, two infant siblings and her beloved dog, Dixie.
She will be greatly missed by all.
