Roy Edward Cabell Jr.

August 10, 1938 — May 16, 2023

Roy Edward Cabell, Jr passed away at the age of 84 on May 16, 2023 after a 15-year struggle with health issues related to a motorcycle crash. He was born in Denver, CO on August 10, 1938 to Roy Edward Sr and Mate Cabell.

Ed grew up in Holbrooke, AZ before moving to Salt Lake City, UT when he was a teenager. He graduated from East High and attended college at Westminster College, The University of Utah, and the Georgia Institute of Technology studying engineering.

He served in the Army, finishing number one out of 421 in his aviation mechanic class. He worked various jobs throughout his life, mostly as a welder and truck driver, and operated his own small construction business, Ed’s Siding, where he built various types of sheds, hay barns, storage unites, garages, steel buildings, etc. He was a jack-of-all-trades who could figure out how to fix and repair about anything.

After his time in the Army, he moved back to Salt Lake City where he met and married the love of his life, LaVerne Jividen, on July 26, 1965. They were happily married for nearly 58 years. In 1976, he moved his family to Cortez where he worked 28 years for Fraley & Company before retiring. He and LaVerne then spent the next several years traveling around the country on their motorcycle and in their motorhome, often spending months at a time in places like Casas Grande, AZ and Branson, MO enjoying the retired life, working on Habitat for Humanity projects, ballroom dancing, playing cards, eating popcorn, and just being together.

Ed enjoyed life and loved to be in his shop working on projects and tinkering with his toys and equipment. He enjoyed the outdoors and participated throughout his life in many activities such as fishing, softball, water and snow skiing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and golf. His favorite hobbies were building and flying radio-controlled airplanes (he started the 4 Corners RC Club) and motorcycling, racing dirt bikes in his younger years and touring on his beloved Harley Davidson.

Ed is preceded in death by his only sibling, Ruth Settles, his parents, and two grandsons. He leaves behind three children, Chet (Star Valley, WY), Lee (St. George, UT), and Karen (Cortez, CO), five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by them all.
