Robert Joseph 'Bob' Monahan

Funeral services for Dolores resident Robert J. ‘Bob’ Monahan will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez, CO. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores, CO. Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Ertel Memorial Chapel.
Bob, who was fondly known as “Mr. Bob,” “Taco Bob,” and Bobby, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at his home in Dolores, CO.
Born to Carol and Thomas Monahan on August 30, 1955, he was the oldest of their six children. Growing up in Glen Cove, NY he spent much of his early years at the beaches on Long Island or playing sports; CYO Basketball, GC Baseball Programs, and GCHS football, basketball, and baseball.
As a young man, Bob chased his dreams and moved to Texas where he lived most of his life. He even took on a southern accent. He took great pride in his work there as an educator. He touched the lives of many children and young adults with his caring and accepting attitude toward students. He had a great passion for life; he always had a story to tell and a new adventure up ahead. This sense of adventure led Bob and Sally to Colorado where he resided for the past three years.
Bob loved a cold beer, a good cocktail, and music. He was a tremendous music fan, a concert goer, and most recently a musician, learning to play the mandolin. So, we will remember Bob with smiles on our faces as we take in the sunshine, listen to the Grateful Dead, share a story with a friend, or try something new and exciting.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sally; his siblings and their families, Maureen (Gary), Eileen, Tommy (Kim), Kevin (Darcy), and Carol (Joe); his step children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
