ROBERT CHARLES "CHARLIE" HEFNER Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Robert Charles "Charlie" Hefner will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 30 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Goodman Point Cemetery. Charlie was born on October 21, 1920 in Kenefic, Okla. the son of James Mordecai and Mary (Pairsh) Hefner. He passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 90. Charlie married Bertha Lee Hipp on September 15, 1944 in Yuma, Ariz. Charlie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and he had an immense passion for baseball. Surviving Charlie are his wife of 67 years, Bertha Hefner of Cortez; his grandsons, Shawn R. Harder of Napa, Calif., Scott Harder of Cortez, and his great-granddaughter, Savanah S. Shy of Campo, Calif. Charlie also leaves behind his siblings, Dortha M. Cradic of Aztec, N.M. and Sparky Hefner of Cimarron, Kan.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many kind and loyal friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; by his children, Phyllis Lee Harder, Roberta Faye Hefner, and Robert C. Hefner Jr.; and by his siblings, Maurine Bosse and Walter Hefner.
