It is with great sadness to announce Ralph Calvillo, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026. He was born on May 11, 1938, in Colona, Colorado, to Jose Guadalupe Calvillo and Laura Calvillo.
Ralph made his home in Cortez, Colorado beginning in 1959, where he built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to his family. He graduated from the Latin American Bible Institute and went on to found the Spanish Assembly Church in Cortez, reflecting his deep commitment to his community and his faith.
In 1960, Ralph married the love of his life, Truiva Calvillo, in Cortez. Together, they built a strong and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Truiva Calvillo; his children, Brian Calvillo, Yvette Calvillo (Benjamin), and Shiree Calvillo-Cox (Ames); his grandchildren, Meghan Higman (Shane), Riley Calvillo (Ahna), TaSheena Calvillo (David), Ben Castillo-Calvillo, and Cheyenne Castillo-Calvillo (Felipe); and his great-grandchildren, Draise Calvillo, Ryatt Calvillo, Colton Calvillo, and Payton Calvillo.
Ralph was a dedicated and hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. In 1973, he developed Happy Valley Trailer Park, and in 1980, he founded La Mesa RV Park, both lasting contributions to the Cortez community.
He was also an avid car enthusiast with a passion for restoring classic cars, bringing dozens of vehicles from as early as 1934 through 1972 back to life. His craftsmanship and love for automobiles were admired by many.
Above all, Ralph will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. His strong work ethic, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family ensured that those he loved were always cared for.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, and love that will live on through all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Julia Calvillo. He is survived by his brothers Andrew Calvillo and Ernest Calvillo (Dori). A service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday May 7, 2026 at Ertel Memorial Chapel.
