Phyllis Jean Barnett, born on January 27, 1947, in Cortez, Colorado, was the cherished daughter of Jessie and Clyde Ayers. She was called to the Lord on July 22, 2025. She spent her formative years in Cahone, Colorado, where she learned the value of hard work helping on the family farm and found joy riding horses in her free time. It was in high school that Phyllis met the love of her life, William (Bill) Edward Barnett. They married on March 21, 1964, embarking on a life filled with adventure. Bill's work led them across Colorado, from the vibrant streets of Golden to the scenic beauty of Telluride and the close-knit community of Platoro. Through every move, Phyllis and Bill navigated life's joys and hardships together. On April 23, 1969, they welcomed their daughter, Brenda Ann, eventually settling in Dove Creek, Colorado. Brenda later blessed Phyllis with two grandchildren, whom she spoiled at every opportunity.
Bill passed away on March 16, 1993. Phyllis never remarried but found great companionship with Robert (Bob) Smith until his passing in March 2002.
Family was Phyllis's greatest treasure. Most weekends, you could find her cheering on her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews at sporting events, or camping and riding horses with loved ones. Her unwavering loyalty and consistent, supportive presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her love and faith in the Lord was well-known, and she is undoubtedly enjoying his Grace in Heaven with her beloved.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Clyde Ayers; her siblings, Willadean Beanland (Isaac Beanland) and Norman Ayers; her husband, William Barnett; her partner, Robert Smith; and her great-granddaughter, Alice Butler.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Funk; her grandchildren, Natasha Butler (Shane Butler) and Cody Funk (Taylor Funk); her great-grandson, Lincoln Butler; her sister-in-law, Julia Ayers; her nieces Julie Martin (Jerry Martin) and Roxanne Guynes (Eric Guynes); her nephews Clay Ayers (Tisha Ayers) Steve Beanland (Denise Beanland), Todd Beanland (Angela Beanland), and Jimmy Beanland (Tammy Beanland); and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces whom she adored.
