Michael Nordstrum, age 36, of Rico, Colorado, passed away on September 3, 2026, in a tragic motorcycle accident on his way home from work.

Mike now rests in peace with his beloved father, Mark. He is survived by his adoring mother, Joanne, and his loving brother, Erik (girlfriend Kerry). Further survived by his uncles and aunts Kevin and Carine Schultz; Rick Schultz and Jennifer Eggers; cousins David Schultz, Matthew Schultz, Caleigh Wilson, Emma Wilson and countless friends.

Mike was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Northwest Lutheran School, keeping his teachers on their toes. He was a member of Covenant Lutheran Church. His freshman year was spent at Milwaukee Lutheran High School where he was on the swimming team. The family moved to Richfield, Wisconsin and Mike graduated from Slinger High School.

Mike was involved with Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout Badge through Troop 61 in Milwaukee. He looked forward to the many camping outings and high adventure trips each year.

Mike was a self-taught guitar player. He also tried his hand at playing the keyboard, being creative with notes that would come to mind. He also enjoyed his Play Station gaming if he had to be indoors. He had a deep affection for his family cats.

Mike led an adventurous life participating in everything outdoors. He enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, bicycle riding, kayaking, swimming, dirt bike riding, hiking, exploring, camping and motorcycle riding.

In 2020, Mike moved to Mountain Village, Colorado. The mountains were calling him. He worked for Telluride Ski and Golf Resort. He started in the Ski Lift Services Department. Then he was promoted to the Ski Lift Maintenance Mechanic Department. He was a dedicated, hard worker, often working high above the ground on the ski lifts. His co-workers were his family in Colorado. He ”loved them a ton.” He also looked forward to cat and dog sitting for his co-workers as he missed his family pets. Mike spent many of his days off in Moab, Utah where he would ride the trails on his motorcycle dirt bike and camp.

Mike had a larger-than-life heart. He was a faithful friend to so many. He had an infectious, enthusiastic personality and brought joy with his warm smile. His hugs were embracing, tight and strong. He wore his heart on his sleeve, was humble and kind. If you knew Mike, he remained engraved in your memory.

The family would like to thank the staff and Mike’s friends at Telluride Ski and Golf Resort for helping them navigate through this most difficult time. Their compassion and generosity will always be remembered.

Funeral services will be held at Alpine Chapel in Telluride on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to the service and a meal afterward.
