Lura Jane Sanders – known and loved by everyone as Jane, Mom, Grandma, or Dah – went home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2026, at the age of 82 in Cortez, Colorado. Jane was born on August 18, 1944, in Galveston, Texas to Almond and Evelyn Clement, the start of a life that would touch more people than she probably ever realized.

To know Jane was to be loved by her fiercely and completely – as a sister, a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother who never once ran out of room in her heart for more family, blood or not. She was a die-hard Cowboys fan through every season, win or lose, and in her eyes, there was no music in the world that could compare to George Strait – she was, without a doubt, his biggest fan and she’d tell you so herself. He probably would too after seeing her looking at him through binoculars from the fourth row at one of his shows. She filled her days with the things that brought her joy: dancing, cooking for anyone who walked through her door, losing herself in a good mystery book, sewing, crocheting, and bowling. She had a servant’s heart in the truest sense – steady, selfless, and always the first to show up with hands ready to help. If something was broken, she could fix it. If something needed building, she’d figure out how to do it herself. She was stubborn and fiercely independent, and yet somehow just as tender, loving, and faithful – a walking, living example of being the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone who crossed her path. Jane was simply dependable in a world where stability is so hard to find, and she leaves behind a presence too big to ever really fill.

Left to cherish her memory and carry her spirit forward are her sisters, Georgie, Fay, and Linda and her husband Mike; her brother, Ray; her children, Mike and his wife Brenda, Sheila, and Keith and his wife Kathy; her 13 grandchildren; and her 25 great-grandchildren – a legacy of love she spent a lifetime building.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Almond and Evelyn Clement; her brother, Al; her sister, Gayle; and her great-grandson, Jonah.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and celebrate Jane’s beautiful life at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Crossroads Christian Fellowship, 2306 E Empire St, Cortez, Colorado, with a potluck to follow – because if there’s one thing Jane would have wanted, it would be everyone she loved, together reminiscing around good food.
