Lucinda "Cindy"
Maki
May 22, 1949 — Aug 30, 2026
On May 22, 1949, Lucinda Ann Wyatt was welcomed into the world by two people who loved her dearly: her parents, Tom and Bonnie Wyatt. Within four years, the family had grown to include sisters Judy and Nancy, and the three girls grew up in a loving household. The sisters found joy in re-enacting TV westerns, raising 4-H rabbits and Guernsey calves, and wearing out their Beatles records (and their parents’ tolerance for rock ‘n’ roll)! It was a good childhood!
Adulthood found Cindy chasing her dreams, leaving her hometown of St. Croix Falls for nearby River Falls, where she earned a teaching degree at the University of Wisconsin. After graduation in 1971, she married her college sweetheart, Peter Maki, and the young couple moved to El Salvador as Peace Corps volunteers. Cindy helped a local nurse advise mothers on health and nutrition, and after returning to Wisconsin, she attended nursing school in Eau Claire. Shortly after graduation, she became a mother, and she and Pete decided to raise their little family on a goat farm in Missouri!
This project was short-lived, but the love of adventure propelled them to keep trying new things. In their 47 years of marriage, they lived in Wisconsin, Hawaii, California, Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado. They raised two children, Alison and Chris, and they delighted in becoming grandparents to three beautiful granddaughters. In retirement, Cindy and Pete enjoyed horseback riding, making many friends on the trails. Their final adventure was a move to Colorado, where Cindy lovingly cared for Pete following a cancer diagnosis. He preceded her in death by 8 years, and Cindy spent her final years enjoying family, friends, and her faith community at Mancos United Methodist Church.
On August 30, 2026, Cindy entered eternal life, with her two children by her side. She is preceded in death by parents Tom and Bonnie Wyatt, husband Peter Maki, and two children who died at birth. She is survived by sisters Judy Wyatt and Nancy Unbehaun, daughter Alison Maki (Chris Christofferson), son Chris Maki (Tina Maki), and grandchildren Anya Christofferson, Taylor Maki, and Kate Maki. Cindy will be remembered for being kind, joyful, adventuresome, and caring.
