IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lori Elizabeth
Harris
January 22, 1960 – February 8, 2026
Lori Elizabeth Harris, of Dolores, Colorado, passed into the arms of Jesus on February 8, 2026 in Durango, Colorado after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer.
Born and raised in with a deep love for family and the outdoors, Lori touched the lives of many through her kindness, generosity, love of children, and unwavering faith in God.
Lori was born January 22, 1960 to Fred and Bev Jahn (and three older siblings) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She attended University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado attaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She moved to Cortez, Colorado in 1982 where, on a blind date, she met and later married the love of her life, Gary Harris, on June 6, 1986. Together they raised two daughters in the close-knit community of Dolores. While working and raising her family, Lori attained a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. For 20 years, Lori faithfully served the Dolores School District, where she supported students, staff, and families alike with a spirit of patience and compassion. She retired in May 2022 which opened the doors for traveling, joining multiple clubs within the community, and learning to use her new sewing machine. Lori enjoyed attending exercise classes at Cortez Recreation Center and found joy in sewing classes at the Quilt Shop. She found the most happiness in spending time with her grandchildren and family, exploring Colorado’s beautiful outdoors, camping, fishing, and jeeping. Lori and Gary explored the majority of Western Colorado and into neighboring states from the seat of their jeep, always looking for a good fishing hole or a new trail. Camping traditions spanned generations, from annual childhood trips with her parents and siblings, to taking her own daughters to the beloved mountains, then later to weekend trips with her granddaughters Kinsey and Kailey. Lori also held a competitive spirit and played countless card and domino games with Gary and family.
Those that love Lori know that family was a cornerstone of Lori’s life, especially when her three grandchildren joined her life. Her smile was never wider and heart never fuller than when she held her grandchildren.
Lori was raised in the Catholic faith and her faith provided strength and comfort to her throughout her life. Following her breast cancer diagnosis in December 2024, she remained hopeful, strong, and trusted in God to guide her through the journey.
Lori is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Bev Jahn, and survived by her husband, Gary Harris; her daughters, Brittney Nesmith (Dalton) and Emily Hoselton (Darren); her sisters, Linda Billings (Jim) and Leslie Markel (Pat); her brother, Greg Jahn (Cindy); and her three cherished grandchildren, Kinsey, Kailey and Gideon who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
A Rosary will be held on February 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM, followed by Mass at 9:30 AM at Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in Cortez, Colorado, for close family and Lori’s Catholic community. Mass will be followed by inurnment at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life will take place on February 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Road M in Cortez, Colorado. All are invited to attend.
Lori will be remembered for her warm heart, her devotion to her family, her love of children, and her love of Colorado’s mountains. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity and strength that will be deeply missed.
