Larry G. Everett, passed away peacefully December 1 at home surrounded by family who loved him. Born to Walter and Serena (Swenk) Everett, he was raised with his brother David on the family ranch that was homesteaded in 1907.
Larry graduated from Mancos High School in 1959, attended Fort Lewis College briefly and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Farm & Ranch Management from Colorado State University in 1964. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the Colorado Workforce Center before returning home to continue the family ranching legacy.
Larry is survived by his brother David C. Everett, his children: Wendy Jackson (Marvin), JenniLynn Lawrence (Jay), Walter Everett (Kaelan), and Paul Everett (Jessica), grandchildren: Nikki, Kelli, Ty, Anna, Cash, Clay, Erin, Lawsyn, and Broderick, great-grandson Liam, another great-grandson that is on the way, along with a beloved nephews, niece, and many cousins who were deeply loved, as well as special friends Andrea Lindus and Claire Hill and her daughters Jenna and Jayne for whom he cared greatly.
Larry introduced the Limousin breed of cattle to the Four Corners region. Larry was a foundation member of the North American Limousin Foundation and was dedicated to producing superior Limousin genetics that are now evident in many of the cattle herds throughout the area. Larry also helped to establish the Four Corners Beef Improvement Center in Hesperus, Colorado, and was recognized as the Southwestern Colorado Livestock Association Stockman of the year in 2012. He served as a 4-H leader and supporter for over 40 years, on the board of the Mancos Conservation District for over 30 years, on the Montezuma County Fair Board, and on the Montezuma County Land Use Committee. He also served as a director of Mountain States Farm Credit for many years and was the president of the Southwestern Livestock Association and president the Bauer Lakes Water Company.
Larry will be remembered for his quiet strength, his conservative values, his unwavering dedication to the cattle industry, his appreciation for family and friends and his deep regard for the land and community he loved. His presence will be deeply missed but forever felt in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in the values of hard work, integrity and resilience that he instilled in his family and those close to him.
A celebration of life will be held at Ertel Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
