Karen Rae (Hinton) Broten, 69, was led by Jesus to her heavenly home on October 3, 2020. Karen was born to the late Raymond and Edith Hinton, in Delta, CO on June 1, 1951.
She married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Scott Broten, on September 11, 1970. Scott and Karen are strong believers in Jesus Christ and have stood firm in their faith throughout their 50-year marriage, and her 25-year battle with cancer. They have used that same faith to build a solid foundation for their family that will last for a thousand generations. Deuteronomy 7:9
Karen took great pride and satisfaction in her work with various non-profit organizations and has served the community of Farmington with a joyful heart and a vibrant smile. When she was not serving God, her family, and the community, she was tirelessly raising her children, or loving her grandchildren, she could be found outdoors. She and Scott have ridden thousands of miles of trails in Southern Colorado on ATVs and horseback and made multiple trips to Alaska to view the beauty of God’s creation. Psalm 95:4-5
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Scott; her sons Matthew Broten (Elizabeth) of La Vernia, TX and Nathan Broten (Tanya) of Farmington, NM; her grandchildren Katherine, Mason, Dylan, Bella, Dawson, Valerie, Kason, and Kellen; her brothers Howard (Wanda) Hinton of Beaumont, CA and Norman (Ouida) Hinton, of Farmington, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dorothy Greenlee.
Karen was laid to rest at the Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores, CO on October 9, 2020. However, her spirit will dwell for eternity, worshipping in her Father’s house, which has many rooms. John 14:1-4
