James (Jim) Johnston

3-2-1929 – 2-26-24

   A celebration of life for longtime Cortez resident, Jim Johnston, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at First United Methodist Church of Cortez. Inurnment will be at Cory Cemetery in Orchard City, Colorado on March 23.

  Jim, the son of Charles and Julia Johnston, was born March 2, 1929, in Delta Colorado. He passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, in Cortez with family by his side at the age of 94, five days shy of his 95th birthday. 

  Surviving Jim are his children; Marcia Johnston-Walden (Steve) of Golden, Colorado, Donn Johnston (Vivianne) of Westminster, Colorado, Mary Beth Acott (Kirk) of Cortez, Colorado, and Ann Valdez (Manny) of Cortez, Colorado; his grandchildren, Amy Johnston, Preston Johnston, Cole Acott, and Taggart Valdez; step-grandchildren, Aeron Clason (Sean), Kayla Acott (Uriah Hubbard), and Tell Acott; and many nieces and nephews.

  Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline Johnston; and two brothers and four sisters.

 Jim was a CPA and loved woodworking.  He was a Veteran and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Jim especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren. We will miss his quick wit, great sense of humor, and outstanding memory.
