Jacob Tony Sumner, was reunited with his mother on the evening of October 19, 2026. He was born on August 25, 1999 to Christol Lynn Seals and Shane Sumner.

Jacob was an avid outdoor adventurer. He enjoyed the spontaneous hike with his dogs. Camping and wandering through the beauty the mountains behold. He was always available to go fishing, one of his favorite pass times. From listening to the calming ebb and flow of the Dolores river to the breeze rustling through the aspen and spruce of the high country, Jacob was at home in the mountains. The stories told and shared with loved ones around a campfire reinforced his memories of times gone by. Jacob also enjoyed sports, from watching ball games with kin close by and cheering on their teams, to playing basketball. He was always ready to play a pickup game of hoops.

Jacob was a very proud uncle to his brother and sisters’ children. His nephews and nieces were a big priority in his life. He made sure the kiddos were involved and entertained at all the family gatherings. Watching them grow and become themselves always brought joy this his heart.

Jacob took pride in his appearance, from the meticulous grooming of his beard to his pressed shirts he always made sure he was dapper and presented his best for the occasion.

Jacob is preceded in death by his mother, Christol Seals. He is survived by his father, Shane Sumner of Lewis, Colo., his brother William Sumner of Cortez, Colo., his older sister Brittnie Sumner of Cortez, Colo., his little sister Ashley Sumner of Cortez, Colo.; his Grandma, Great Grandma, and his nephews and nieces; all of whom loved him dearly.

Graveside services for Jacob Tony Sumner will be held at Summit Ridge Cemetery on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon. A Celebration of Jacob’s life and memorial potluck will be held at the Dolores Firehouse, following interment.
