Gwenlyn Irene Decker

December 11, 1932 — April 22, 2020

Gwenlyn Irene Decker, born December 11, 1932 in Pueblo, CO, died on April 22, 2020 at the age of 87. She passed peacefully in her sleep at the home of her daughter in Layton, UT.
Gwen was born the fourth child of Edwin Lakin and Dorotha Vay and spent her childhood between Pueblo, CO and Mancos, CO. By WWII, Gwen was living in San Diego, CA with her mother and brothers, Howard and Willis. She had many memories of her time in San Diego. Her teenage years proved to be very turbulent and eventually led her to return to Colorado. She attended Fort Lewis College and graduated with a degree in accounting. She married John Barton Decker on November 26, 1951 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Both John and Gwen were stalwart and faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and she was an active member of the Daughters of the America Revolution. They had four children and raised them in the Mancos Valley. Gwen was an avid genealogist, quilter and gardener. She loved to sing in the choir, plays and when she worked. She was always a hard worker.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years and her grandson James. She is survived by her younger brother, Howard Lakin of Bountiful, UT; her sons, Kenneth Decker of Cortez, CO, and Steve Decker of Tuscan, AZ; her daughters, Deborah Stringer of Layton, UT, and Tessa Oveson of Cortez, CO; 16 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren. The pallbearers are Kenneth Decker Jr., Wade Decker, Alfred Stringer, Matthew Decker, Jonathan Stringer, Cody Decker, Robert Stringer, and Kent Stringer. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Dalaba, Cory Williams, Marshall Witt, Jason Witt, Nathan Hogge, Ryan Carter, and Nohel Boline.
A private graveside service will be held at Weber Cemetery in Mancos, CO.
