Gary Allen Groves

   Graveside services for longtime Dolores, CO. resident Gary Allen Groves will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26 at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores, CO. Gary was born August 29, 1933, in Torrance, CA. the son of Gordon L. and Aimee (Bryant) Groves. He passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Hospice of Mercy in Durango, CO. at the age of 91. He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Groves of Cortez, and Gale Tarver (Russell) of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Bonnie Groves (Holloway); by his parents; and by his brother, Mark Groves.

 Gary was a quiet, easy-going man with an endearing sense of humor and a loving husband and father to their two daughters. He, Bonnie, and the girls discovered Southwest Colorado in the early 70s and looked forward to their summer vacation camping out here every year. Their longtime dream to retire to the area finally came true about 15 years later when he and Bonnie moved to a cabin along the river near Dolores. They thoroughly enjoyed their 30-plus year retirement, making their cabin a home, exploring the mountains and local history, fishing, and visiting different parts of the world through cruises. Bonnie passed away in 2016, but Gary continued to live in the retirement home they made together. He remained active, waking early and taking long walks each morning alongside the river well into his 80s. He passed away peacefully at Hospice of Mercy in Durango with family at his bedside.
