Evelyn June
Noyes
November 17, 1941 – May 8, 2026
Evelyn June Noyes, age 84, passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2026. She was lovingly known as Junebug by many who knew her. Evelyn June was born in Durango, Colorado on Nov. 17th, 1941. She was handicapped from birth and did not learn to talk until she was older, and then in her own language. Those that weren’t around her regularly could not understand her very well. She never attended regular school; but for a short time, she went to a special school called Robin Rogers for handicapped kids like her. She loved everyone she met, and no one was a stranger to her. If you had an opportunity to see her in town, she may have spoken to you or just introduced her “baby” doll that was always with her even to her passing. She was never institutionalized and lived in the family home all her life. People would complement our mom for having the patience for all those years that she was able to care for Evelyn. Over the last few years she had many caretakers, several of them would comment “Evelyn is so easy to care for.” Amazingly, a great thing about her is that she self-entertained every day, for the whole day. She liked to do everything for herself, if possible, but would ask for help if needed. Her “baby” doll took up a lot of her time, but she did have other “jobs” as she called them. She wrote lots of letters to her loved ones. Even though she didn’t spell or write like we do, she could read back to you what she wrote if you asked her to. If you were there at any mealtime, it was not a surprise to hear Evelyn start the meal by blessing the food. She had her own landline phone for many years that she called people on, but when everyone was getting flip phones, she wanted one too, so that was what she used in later years. She enjoyed helping anybody with whatever she could, from shucking corn, snapping green beans; you name it. Evelyn did like to have company, and she listened to all the conversations even though she might be dressing her doll in the many layers of clothes she wanted it to wear. We are not certain, but quite sure she understood so much more than anybody realized.
Evelyn loved music all through her life. I guess some of that is since our dad played his guitar and sang often. In her younger years she would play the same song on her record player repeatedly. There were several vinyl 45 records that we had to replace because of overuse. Lately she would play “music” on her guitar and sing along, many of the hymns she heard in church. It was quite touching.
There are so many wonderful traits Evelyn had. Most definitely she will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Louella Noyes of the Lebanon area, and a brother Oliver Noyes of Cortez. Surviving Evelyn are three brothers and two sisters. Eldon (Betty) Noyes, Lory (Sandie) Noyes, Dan (Sheri) Noyes, Darlene (Ed) Barber, Lavona (Bob) Hansen, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Noyes. Also preceding and surviving are nieces and nephews that treated her special too.
The family extends much thanks to all of Evelyn’s caretakers over the years!
