Donna Sue Schmittel was born on December 26, 1956, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Leslie and Bernice Sanders. She passed away on October 8, 2026 in Mancos, Colorado.
Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robin Schmittel, and her daughter, Brianna Schmittel, whom she now joins in eternal life.
Throughout her life, being a mom and grandma is what Donna treasured most. She loved making memories and being part of their lives. Her family was her greatest pride and joy.
Donna had a love for the simple things in life, including gardening, canning, baking, and sewing. She found happiness in creating things with her hands and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. She also dedicated many years of service to her community through Girl Scouts, 4-H, her local school, and the Lions Club. Giving her time and helping others was simply part of who she was.
Donna had a big heart and a genuine care for the people around her. She welcomed others into her life and home, and many of the friends she made became family. Her kindness, generosity, and love for those around her will be remembered by all who knew her.
Donna is survived by her daughters, Donna Johnson-Close (Jeff Murphy) and Kendra (Justin) Gapp; her grandchildren, Milo Johnson, Isabelle Johnson, Sterling Close, Beau Woodman, Heath (Haylen) Woodman, and Travis Woodman; her great-grandchildren; and many dear friends whom she considered family.
Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Donna's life on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Mesa Trails Cowboy Church in Mancos, Colorado.
Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will continue to live on through those who knew her.
