David "Grumpy" Oveson

DAVID “GRUMPY” OVESON

   A Celebration of Life for David Oveson will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Military Honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75.  

  David “Grumpy” Oveson was born to Nevan “Jack” and Janet Oveson on January 19, 1948, in Durango, Colorado. He passed away on January 23, 2024, in Cortez, Colorado.

     He grew up in Mancos, Colorado where he met the love of his life in high school, Judy Tate and they became high school sweethearts. After graduating in 1966 he joined the Army and served three tours in Vietnam. Shortly after arriving back stateside in 1970 he and Judy got married. David worked various jobs but enjoyed driving a log truck the best. While driving truck he took the C.B. handle of “Grumpy.”  Judy and the two oldest kids (David and Darlena) would be at his side wherever the logging took them. In 1979 Grumpy started working for William F. Bridgewater Trucking where he worked until 2007, when he was able to start his own trucking company hauling gravel. Grumpy enjoyed trucking, spending time with family and friends and helping others. 

  Surviving Grumpy is his wife of 53 years, Judy Oveson; his son, David and wife, Crystal Oveson; daughters, Darlena and husband, Jesse Fine, Daveena and husband, Kevin Summers; grandkids, David and Ricky Oveson-Stecher, Earl Burch, Rose and Wyatt Fine, Eleica Oveson Watts, Raianah Oveson, David, William and Christopher Parnell, Kaleb, Kalista and Kamryn Summers; great grandkids, Keneron Burch and Scarlette Oveson-Gomez; and brothers, Doug and Duncan Oveson.

  Grumpy is proceeded in death by his parents; son, Dwain “Dizzo”; and brother, Dorian Oveson.
