David Eugene Offutt was born March 7, 1946 in Sacramento, California; raised by his grandparents, Walter Floyd and Ruth (Dancaster) Offutt in Marvel, Colorado. He passed away on Thursday, October 30th at his home in Mancos, Colorado at the age of 79.
Feared by some, friend to many, loved by his family; he married MaryDean Morehart in November of 1969. He was an Airborne Ranger in the United States Army and actively served two tours in Vietnam. For many years, he was a brick mason for Eaton Construction and G&S Masonry in Durango, Colorado. He then owned ‘Durango Guns’ on Main Street and in 2005, he closed his gun shop and retired to Summit Ridge, San Juan Forest.
David was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, and proponent of wildlife preservation in Colorado. As a veteran himself, he was a champion for wounded veterans and their care. He enjoyed his years in retirement playing poker at local casinos and taking in the views of the mountain from his front porch.
Surviving David are his spouse, MaryDean Offutt of Mancos, Colorado; his two children; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. No services are planned and internment will be at Hermosa Cemetery.
