Bernice Pearl Scheller was born on March 12, 1930. Bernice passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026.
Bernice was born in Branson, Colorado. The family came to Cortez to get away from the dust bowl. She spent most of her school years in the Calkins Building. She was the youngest child of seven. She met her forever love Ernest in 1947. Bernice and Ernest where married on January 21, 1948. They were married for 71 wonderful years. Together they created the Scheller homestead South of Cortez. They ran Hereford cattle and adventured with farm and ranch life for 40 years. Sharing her talents with her three daughters and four granddaughters was always a great time. Bernice was an avid crocheter, quilter and knitter by trade. She created endless, timeless pieces by hand for everyone in her family to love and share. A personal gift of hers was that she shared and taught all of the family as well. She enjoyed her love for hummingbirds, teapots and Jesus. All of her family members loved her monkey rolls that she made for special family get togethers. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones. But we know she is in heaven. We love you mom and grandma.
Bernice is survived by her three daughters, Dixie Sparks (Sam), Kris Kelly, Nancy Rowe: Her four granddaughters, Schelli Porter (Mike), Alyssa Trujillo (Jeff Lively), Tracy Mitchell (John) and Cassy Rowe: six great-grandchildren: Allison Prieskorn (Clay), Byron Porter (Mariah), Emmalee Trujillo, Raygen Rowe (Vince Judd), Aubree Trujillo and Payge Rowe; great-great-grandchildren: Archer Judd, Omari Trujillo, McCray Prieskorn, Tinell Prieskorn and Kinley Porter. Step granddaughter Lisa Passell (Tim); Step grandchildren Ryan Greene (Zoey) and Rickie Greene (Denise); Step great-great-grandchildren Struther, Jude and Iris Greene and many other family members.
