Mancos

Anthony “Tony” Leroy Romero, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully. He was born on February 22, 1945, and lived a life marked by hard work, adventure, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Tony married the love of his life, Nancy, and together they shared 51 years of marriage—years filled with travel, family, and countless cherished memories. Their journeys across the country were so extensive that each of their daughters was born in a different state: Paula in California, Malissa in Colorado, Samantha in Nevada, Luciana in Alabama, and Lanita in Colorado. Family was Tony’s greatest joy, and he carried pride for each of his children throughout his life.

Raised in Mancos, Colorado, Tony attended Mancos High School and worked at both the local sawmill and the drugstore during his early years. He went on to build a long and respected career in construction with KNC, eventually retiring from Schnabel after years of dedicated service.

In retirement, Tony found one of his most meaningful callings: serving his community. He spent countless hours transporting disabled veterans from the Mancos, Durango, and Cortez areas to the VA hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, providing support, company, and compassion to those who had served the nation.

Tony enjoyed many passions throughout his life. He loved raising his Chihuahuas, who were constant companions and a source of great comfort. He was also an avid World Series of Poker enthusiast. His skill and determination at the tables led him all the way to Las Vegas, where he proudly finished in the money at the World Series of Poker, a highlight he always cherished.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Andreita, his brother Steve Romero, son-in-law Burl Singer, son-in-law Steve Owen, and his great granddaughter Ava Duran. Their memories remained close to his heart.

He is survived by his loving devoted wife Nancy, and his beloved daughters Paula Duran and husband Adam, Malissa Owen, Lanita Troyano, Samantha Romero and fiancé Robbie and Luciana Singer. Brother Danny Romero and sister Terry Romero, numerous grandkids and great grandkids, along with a large extended family and many friends who will forever remember his humor, kindness, dedication, and generosity.

Anthony Leroy Romero lived a life defined by love, service, and resilience. His legacy will continue through the countless lives he touched and the family he cherished above all else. May he rest in peace.
