In Loving Memory of Allen Thomas Martinez
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Allen Thomas Martinez of Cortez, Colorado, on October 23, 2025.
Born in Grand Junction, Colorado, on September 25, 1966, to Anthony Martinez and Juliet Dominguez, Allen lived a vibrant and impactful life over his 59 years. He was known for his warmth, infectious laughter, and unwavering spirit, touching the lives of many along the way.
A proud graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, Class of 1984, Allen was a member of the track team and deeply passionate about music. He participated in the jazz band, symphony band, and marching band, later joining a Drum & Bugle Corps based in Kansas. His summers were spent traveling and competing nationally as part of the corps’ drumline, reaching the National Finals each year. Allen generously shared his talents with the MCHS band and color guard, mentoring students in both percussion and choreography.
Throughout his life, Allen pursued his artistic passions with dedication. He owned and operated an interior design business, offering services in faux finishes, ironwork, and home décor. Later, he found joy and fulfillment as a head bartender at The Rio in Las Vegas, where he worked for many years before returning to Cortez to care for his father. Allen’s culinary talents were legendary, especially his beloved green chili. His kitchen was a place of warmth, music, and family—often filled with the sounds of Spanish guitar and the laughter of loved ones learning his cooking secrets. He was also an avid traveler, creating cherished memories across the globe, though his heart always remained in his native Colorado.
Allen was a beloved friend to many and left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He is survived by his life partner of 37 years, Grant Stanley; his closest friend Charles Grey, his brother Michael Martinez (Michele) of Pagosa Springs, CO; his sister Jeannie Dubois (Todd) of Connecticut; his father Anthony Martinez of Cortez; aunts and uncles, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he adored. He is also remembered fondly by extended family and a wide circle of friends. Allen was preceded in death by his mother, Juliet Martinez.
A private family ceremony will be held, however all who knew and loved Allen are invited to join in honoring his memory on Friday, November 7th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Destination Grill. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local charity or in support of veterans, in tribute to Allen’s generous spirit.
