May 18, 1920 — January 29, 2004

WOODROW RALPH HILL Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Woodrow Ralph Hill will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Reverend Lynn Evans will be officiating. Woody was born on May 18, 1920 in Wimberly, Tex. to Leander Theodrick and Virginia Carolina (Adare) Hill. He passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at the Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango at the age of 83. In the South Pacific during World War II Woody served in the Air Force. On September 29, 1942 in Long Island, New York he married Venita Brown. With this union three children were born, Lynn, Dave and Linda. Upon becoming a grandfather, Woody found a favorite pastime was to tease his grandchildren and love them dearly. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and basically anything in the outdoors. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and was once a member of the Elks. Surviving Woody is his wife, Venita Hill of Cortez; his children, Lynn Hill and wife, Sally of Flagstaff, Ariz., Dave Hill and wife, Patsy of Cortez, and Linda Humphreys and husband, Frank of Cortez. He leaves five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Ruth Sell of Albuquerque, N.M., and Helen Vance of Naturita. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Woody. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
