William "Pops" Bone

WILLIAM “POPS” BONE Graveside inurnment services for lifelong Cortez resident, William “Pops” Bone will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 18 at Cortez Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Bill was born December 7, 1926 in Monte Vista, Colo. the son of Robert Laughlin and Lucy Gay (Mondell) Bone. He passed away at his home in Cortez on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the age of 80. In November 1944, Bill proudly joined the U.S. Navy serving 21 months to his country. At the time of his discharge, Bill held the rank of 3rd Class Gunner. During his working career Bill work oil field pipelines and for 35 years as a self employed welding fabricator. Bill loved his work. In his free time he enjoyed riding horses. Surviving Bill are his children, William Robert Bone of Cortez, Phyllis Kent and husband, Dick of Aurora, Colo., Russell Bone and wife, Becky of Cortez, Thomas Bone and wife, Loraine of Golden, Colo. and Joseph Bone of Ruidoso, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and his brother, Richard Bone and wife, Betty of Denver. Preceding Bill in death are his wife, Betty Marie (Grett) Bone in 1997; two stepdaughters, Linda Milholland and Debra Ayers; and two brothers, Robert Bone and Thomas Bone.
