Walter Heaton

WALTER HEATON Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident, Walter Heaton will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28 at the Cortez Cemetery. The Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 will be conducting military services. Walter was born on March 12, 1925 in Mancos the son of Lee Roy and Dorothy (Moore) Heaton. He passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M. at the age of 80. On July 8, 1943 Walter went into the U.S. Army where he defended his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on May 10, 1945. Walter was a rancher and farmer raising beans and wheat. During his spare time he loved hunting and fishing. Surviving Walter were his sister, Mary Ann Green and husband, Ray of Clifton, Colo.; and his three nieces, Rosalie Luke and husband, Jimmie of Laguna, N.M., Maralie Stegall and husband, Larry of Clifton, Colo., and Carolyn Scott and husband, Allen of Wellsville, Utah. Preceding him in death were his parents.
