TIMOTHY ALLEN LANIER

Timothy Allen Lanier, 65, of Pleasant View, CO passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Mercy Medical Hospital in Durango, CO. He spent the last 4 years battling cancer and fought diligently to the end. Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Empire at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Friday night at Ertel Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. There will be a closed casket visitation with the family on Saturday, before the funeral from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Tim was born on November 3, 1956 in Muenchweiler, Germany to Duane and Bobbi Lanier. As a child, he grew up farming and ranching on the family farm alongside his dad, and loved all the adventures he had with his siblings and cousins. While in high school he participated in the rodeo club, marching band, basketball and football. Upon graduation from Montezuma Cortez High School in 1975, he served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Louisville, Kentucky. After his mission he went to Rick’s College where he earned an Associates in Farm Crops Management. While in college, he met the love of his life, Merlene Prince, and they married on July 28th, 1978 for time and all eternity in the Manti, Utah temple. They returned home to continue farming and ranching where he worked to the end despite all the pain he had to endure. They have been married for 44 years, have 5 children and were blessed with 21 grandchildren that are the highlight of his life.

He loved serving his community in any way possible. He was on the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 School Board, Farmer’s Telephone Company board, and the founding board for the Pleasant View Charter School. He also served as a Bishop for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Tim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Throughout his life some of his most cherished memories are the ones he could spend with his family. He loved spending time outdoors, hunting, going on pack trips, being on horseback, and going to the temple with his family. He always made time for the most important things in life. Tim will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his warm smile and his love of service. He met no stranger.

Surviving Tim are his loving wife, Merlene Lanier of Pleasant View, Colo.; his children, Joseph Lanier (Jenn) of Pleasant View, Colo., Stephanie Fry (Wendell) of Cortez, Colo., Emilie Cook (Jared) of Rupert, Idaho, Courtnie Dayton (Bryce) of Rupert, Idaho, and Ashlie Corder (Hayzen) of Marsing, Idaho; by 21 grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Pauline Prince of Panguitch, Utah; and by his siblings, Colleen Honaker (Dave) of Pleasant View, Colo., Moneta Mack (Tony Pool) of Pleasant View, Colo., Ben Lanier (Xela) of Pleasant View, Colo., and Sherri McCombs (Adam) of Colville, Wash. Tim was preceded in death by his parents; by his father-in-law, Joseph Merle Prince; and by his brother-in-law, Doug Mack.

Memorial contributions may be made in Tim’s name at First National Bank. The funds gathered will be distributed to the Pleasant View Charter School project.
