Steven L. French

October 18, 1956 — April 7, 2020

Steve French was the happiest guy you’ve ever met.

He was born on October 18, 1956, to George and Doris French and his big sister Vicki. He has been bringing happiness to people ever since.

He was a welder in his early days and enjoyed riding bucking broncos in rodeos and Harley Davidsons through the streets of Cortez and Kirtland.

He was shot in 1981 and suffered severe brain damage leaving him with very limited speech and the use of only his left arm and hand.

His strength and his loving family and friends pulled him from the edge of death.

His parents took care of Steve for 19 years until he moved to Denver with his sister Vicki in 2000. Steve moved into Harmony Point Nursing Care in 2002 where he loved all the activities and making more friends.

Despite his struggles, and disabilities he was always cheerful. He played the piano and even learned to ride a stationary bike. He took part in many activities at Harmony Point and in the community. His favorite summer activity was going to a week-long camp up in Breckenridge.

He always had a smile, a wave, a tip of the hat or a hug for everyone he ever met. He brought smiles and laughter to everyone from his nearest family to strangers on the street. One time he even shook hands with everyone we pasted on the way into a Rockies game.

Nobody could pass Steve without smiling.

He was a great friend and brought comfort and encouragement to the people in Harmony Point.

He and his family celebrated holidays, went to movies and enjoyed many meals together full of laughter and games.

He was the best uncle three nieces could ever have. He loved them with his whole heart and they never stopped feeling it.

He loved playing games, especially Sorry and Uno. He seemed to win a lot so there was always talk of cheating. He loved country music and he sang to every song he heard.

If you spent time with Steve you knew you had the coffee ready and memories to share.

He’s given us his final tip of the hat and we are all terribly sad and will miss him a lot.

But darn if we can’t stop smiling when we think of him.

Steve is survived by his sister Vicki Linderholm her husband, Ed and their three daughters Kirsty, Wendy and Holly along with many cousins and friends.

Steve’s hugs and smiling face will be sorely missed by all. Rather than flowers please give to the charity or church of your choice in Steve’s name.
