Sally Margot Phegley was born on May 25, 1932 in Compton, California to Russell and Lois Dunn. She passed away August 22, 2020 at Vista Grande Inn in Cortez, Colorado.
Sally, her brother James and her parents lived in Compton until an earthquake in 1933 caused major damage to their home. Soon after, they moved to Mosca, Colorado and became ranchers. Her early education was received in Mosca and the Harwood Girls School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In her teens, Sally returned to the San Luis Valley to graduate from Mosca High School, then attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. Sally was active in the Rainbow Girls and completed all the offices of The Order of Eastern Star including Worthy Matron.
On May 28, 1961, Sally married Norman Cleo Phegley, Jr. The couple lived in Alamosa, Colorado where Norman managed his family’s smoke shop. After a few years they moved to Cortez, Colorado to assist her parents in the management of the Rock-a-Way Motel. When the Dunn’s retired, Sally and Norman purchased the motel and continued its operation for several more years.
Sally’s parents, husband Norman, and her brother James Dunn, preceded her in death. Sally is survived by two nieces, Janette McKinny and Julie Thompson.
Inurnment will be at the First United Methodist Church of Cortez.
