May 29, 1916 — March 30, 2008

RUTH M. CROWLEY Funeral services for lifelong area resident Ruth M. Crowley will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the Eastland Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Eastland. Raymond Boyd will officiate. Ruth was born on May 29, 1916 near Vici, Okla. the daughter of Tom and Emma Moss. She passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 91. Ruth was one of eight children and she spent her childhood and attended school in the Vici area. Her family moved from their farm in Oklahoma to Pleasant View, Colo. when she was 20 years old to escape the dust bowl. On July 2, 1938, Ruth married Jamie Crowley, the love of her life. They remained in the Yellow Jacket area until April 1, 1939. From there they moved to a farm in Utah near what is now called Eastland, between Dove Creek, Colo. and Monticello, Utah. She continued to live there until last August when she went to live at a nursing facility in Mancos. She and Jamie raised their four children on the farm. Ruth loved cooking and entertaining her family and friends by serving wonderful meals, and then a game of cards or a board game. She taught all of her grandchildren how to play many different kinds of games. Large groups of family would come for hunting season and that was the highlight of her year. She enjoyed every minute of all the excitement of their company and going through the woods "dogging" for deer. She was a wonderful hostess, and made sure everyone enjoyed their stay whether it was a day or a week. Nobody ever left without having a meal and usually taking some baked goodie home with them. Her smile was a delight to those around her. Ruth and Jamie had a winter home in Mesa, Ariz. for many years and they made friends with all of their neighbors and the people in the little Baptist church they attended. They looked forward to spending time there and then returning home to Utah in the spring to start farming and planting a garden, and possibly a motor home trip. Ruth was a member of the Followers of Christ Church in Pleasant View. She loved Jesus and appreciated all the blessings God had given her throughout her life. Surviving Ruth are her children, Janice Bobo of Durango, Gary Crowley and wife, Phyllis of Eastland, Utah, Lavon Harkendorff and husband, Jim of Cortez, and Marsha Ashburn and husband, Steve of Durango; her grandchildren, Rene' Bobo, Camla Schultz and husband, Mike, Christopher Crowley and wife, Nikki, Karen Herrera and husband, Omar, Carli Harkendorff, Haley Harkendorff, Matt Ashburn and wife, Kelsey and Dan Ashburn and wife, Tami; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Koehler of Albuquerque, N.M. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jamie Crowley on December 30, 2002; three brothers; and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colo. 81321.
