RUTH GEORGE YAZZIE Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Ruth George Yazzie will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24 at the Cortez Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Empire Street. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Ruth was born on April 28, 1928 in Lake Valley, N.M. the daughter of Jim and Charlotte Antonio (Johnson) Beyale. She passed away on Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. On January 12, 1945 in Durango, Ruth married Frank Yazzie. She was a dedicated homemaker who belonged to both the Native American Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ruth enjoyed sewing, cooking and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Frank Yazzie of Cortez; her children, Esther Yazzie of Cortez, Susie Muller and husband, Sid of Belen, N.M., Colleen Pacheco and husband, Larry of Santo Domingo, N.M., Martin Yazzie of Cortez, Mary Ann Yazzie of Globe, Ariz., Charlotte Corrales and husband, Joseph of Farmington, N.M.; and her adopted daughter, Janet Baird and husband, Tom of Baltimore, Mary. She leaves nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; as well as her brother and sister, Jerry Johnson of Aneth, Utah, and Helen Etcitty of Lake Valley, N.M. Preceding her in death are her parents; one grandchild; as well as Clarence George, Beulah Padilla, and Rita Benally. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
