Ruby Jean Mellott

Funeral services for Pleasant View resident Ruby Jean Mellott will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Cortez First Baptist Church. Pastor Marvin Graves will officiate. Interment will follow at Dove Creek Cemetery.
Ruby Jean Mellott was born in Mancos, CO June 1, 1936 to Hubert Baker and Alma Brown Baker. She passed away and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 83.
Jean married George Mellott on August 10, 1953 in Aztec, NM. They made their home in Denver, CO until they moved back to Dove Creek, CO in 1970 to take up farming. She stayed in Dove Creek until George died in 2008. She lived the last 11 years of her life with her daughter and son-in-law in Pleasant View, CO.
Jean was a hard working farm wife. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Egnar School and also worked in the kitchen as a lunch lady. Later in life she was a Dispatcher for the Dolores County Sherriff’s Department. Jean had many hobbies; she loved to crochet and made many afghans, baby blankets, hats and little sweaters. She also made many beautiful doylies for her house, family and friends. She loved to embroider and was an avid reader.
Jean dearly loved her grandkids and baby’s in general. We all knew if Mom was in the room no one got to hold a baby but her. She would eventually share after she got them to sleep. Of course then no one wanted to wake a sleeping baby and she could hold them longer.
Surviving Jean are her children, Phil Mellott of Cortez, CO, and Barbie (David) Marsell of Pleasant View, CO; her grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Emily, Molley, Jeffery, Rebeca, and Jeremy; her two great grandchildren, Ayden and Noah Baker; her sister, Toni Essex; and her brother, Ted Baker. Jean was preceded in in death by her husband, George Mellott; her parents, Hubert and Alma Baker; her sisters, Dorris Mellott, Carol Baker, and Lucil Lynn; and her brothers, Ralph Baker, and Howard Baker.
Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Dove Creek Cemetery.
