Ronald Rex "Ron" Hunter

April 28, 1949 — February 21, 2014

RONALD REX "RON" HUNTER Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Ronald Rex "Ron" Hunter will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 28 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Following the services a meal will be served at the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Ron was born on April 28, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Richard and Betty Hunter. Ron was raised in Baker, Mont. where he attended elementary and high school. While growing up in Baker, Ron worked as a ranch hand on a local cattle ranch. After graduating high school, Ron continued his education at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. He moved to Colorado in 1969. While working for Nielsons Construction he continued to put himself through college completing his education at Ft. Lewis College obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Oil Geology. On March 10, 1979 Ron married the love of his life Bobbie Higman. They began their lives together with children, Justin and Shandi and to this union added two daughters, Falena and Elizabeth. Ron worked for Peter Kewit until he was hired by Triad Western Constructors in 1980. He was one of the first men hired to this young company and took great pride in his work as one of the leading superintendents for the past 33 years. Ron loved the outdoors and was eager to share his love and knowledge with his family and friends. Hunting, fishing, camping, stock car racing, 4-H and rodeo were some of the things Ron enjoyed and shared with loved ones. Above all Ron was a family man who lived for his wife and kids. In recent years his joy and devotion for his seven grandchildren was undeniable. On February 21, 2014 with his family by his side, Ron lost a long hard fought battle to cancer. Through it all he never lost his will to live, his amazing sense of humor and wit, or his kind and patient personality. Ron was loved, depended upon and will be dearly missed by those he left behind, his wife, Bobbie of 34 years; four children, Justin Jeter (Andrea Jeter), Shandi Jeter (Chris Moore), Falena Hunter (David Kimble), and Elizabeth Hunter (Vince McDaniel); and seven grandchildren, Brenn Jeter, Luna and Nova Moore, Brady Dale, Jaleesa and Nevaeh Espinoza, and Alyvia McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard D. and Betty E. Hunter. Memorial contributions can be made in Ron's name to Vectra Bank.
