Roger Charles Hausen

June 3, 1927 — December 9, 2019

Roger Charles Hausen was born June 3, 1927 to Clarence and Viona (Dahlquist) Hausen in Stanton, Iowa and passed away December 9, 2019 at the Beehive Homestead in Cortez, Colorado surrounded, for many days, by his family.
After graduating from the University of Iowa, Roger met Carolyn Lea Shepherd, who worked at his stepfather’s drugstore. They married on September 8, 1950 in Villisca, Iowa and he soon after departed to serve his country for two years in the United States Army. His first son, Roger Jr., was born shortly after his departure to serve in France. After his discharge from the army and working for a short time for Dunn & Bradstreet in icy South Dakota, the family of three, and one on the way, moved to a warmer climate, California. He continued to work for Dunn & Bradstreet and his second son, Michael Steven, was born in 1953. In 1957 his daughter, Susan Kay, was born and he went to work for the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office, from which he retired in 1984. While living in California Roger also enjoyed the challenge of buying and selling properties and finding a good deal, coaching youth sports, and playing tennis.
Roger and Carolyn moved to Durango, Colorado in 1986 where they lived for 20 years. They enjoyed snow-birding to Arizona, traveling in their motor home, and venturing off to many destinations around the world. Roger enjoyed playing tennis, bicycling, skiing, swimming, and square dancing up into his 80s.
After living full time in Arizona for three years, Roger began showing signs of dementia. Roger and Carolyn moved into an independent living community in Grants Pass, Oregon near their son Michael and his family. There he enjoyed and excelled at playing billiards and other various games and activities. Six years later, and as his disease progressed, Roger and Carolyn moved to Cortez, Colorado to be near their daughter Susan. In his remaining years he enjoyed looking at the Mesa Verde mountains from his chair, taking walks at the beautiful Cortez parks and at the local Wal-Mart in the winter, and celebrating his 69th wedding anniversary with his caring and devoted wife.
Roger is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children and their spouses, Michael (Robin) Hausen, Susan (David) Doudy, and daughter-in-law Laurel Pye Hausen; his grandchildren and their spouses, Adam (Robin) Hausen, Aaron (Christina) Hausen, Luke (Angel) Morris, Lacey (Brian) Murphy and William Hausen; his great grandchildren, Tyler Hausen, Teegan Morris, Makayla Hausen, Ryan Hausen, Kamryn Murphy, Kacen Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Katherine Shepherd and Virginia Werner; and his son, Roger Hausen, Jr.
