Roberta Irene Williams

January 7, 1944 — December 8, 2017

Roberta Irene Gardner Williams was born January 07, 1944 in Cortez, CO to Robert H. and Marguerite Thomas Gardner. She passed from this life on the morning of December 08, 2017 at her home in rural Cortez. She is survived by her husband: Kenneth E. Williams. Her daughters: Susan L. Pernote (Joel) and Sandra K. Wall (Frank), as well as her brothers: Grady E. Gardner (Gayle) and Robert Lynn Gardner (Dolly). She is also survived by step grandchildren, cousins, and a host of friends. Roberta grew up in Arriola, CO, and attended the first eight grades in the country school there. After this, she attended MCHS and graduated from there in 1962. During these years she was active in 4-H and horse-back pack trips and trail rides. She was an accomplished horsewoman and was a Ute Mountain Rodeo queen. She was a ranch girl and helped her father and brothers with the cattle. After she graduated, she attended Barnes School of Business in Denver, CO. While in Denver she met and married Ken Williams. They made their home in Denver for a time, then moved with his job to Michigan, back to Denver, and ultimately returned to Cortez with their two daughters. Roberta worked in the school lunch program predominantly at the Cortez Junior High. She also worked for Valley Bank as well as, Dolores State Bank. She then became a caretaker for her daughter. She was very active in the Cortez American Legion Auxiliary, and formed many lifelong friendships from the ranks. She was such a nurturing person, and made herself available to her children, parents, relatives, and friends in any capacity that she could. She will be greatly missed.
