ROBERT LEWIS MAYNES Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Robert "Bob" Lewis Maynes will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Barr Chittick will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Lebanon Cemetery. Bob was born on February 23, 1926 in Oxford, Colo. the son of Ernest Lewis and Hazel (Eley) Maynes. He passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Bob served his country in the Army during World War II. He was one of the soldiers involved in the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp on April 29, 1945. It was during the war he met Traute Schiesslingstrasser. On November 7, 1948 in Cortez, Colo. they were married. Together they had two children, Byron and Christine. In 1951 Bob graduated from Colorado University. He spent his career as a Pharmacist and Owner of Professional Pharmacy until his retirement in 1989. Bob also worked hard for his community. Serving as Cortez Mayor and as a Montezuma County Commissioner. He sat on the Cortez City Council and Southwest Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Bob was also one of the founding board members of the Cortez Cultural Center. The City of Cortez named him Citizen of the year. Bob maintained memberships with many other organizations like the V.F.W., T.L.C., Cortez Elks Lodge, the 40's Bunch and Toastmasters International. During his pastime Bob enjoyed bird watching, hunting, camping, water skiing, snow skiing, jeeping and traveling. Surviving Bob are his children, Byron Maynes and wife, Theresa of Mancos, and Christine Stramel and husband, Walt of Cortez; five grandchildren, Eric Stramel of Cortez, Aaron Maynes and wife, Angela of Greenwood, Ark., Sara Spencer and husband, Randy of Mancos, Kelly Maynes and wife, Kara of Wellington, Utah, and Hallie Yoder and husband, David of Durango; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; as well as his sister, Ruby Spear and husband, Jay of Heber, Ariz. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Hazel Maynes; his wife, Traute Maynes; and his siblings, David Maynes, Mary Ellen Stork, Luella Wesolowski, Howard Maynes, Karen Rossen and Ruth Metzelaar. Memorial contributions can be made in Robert Lewis Maynes' memory to the Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market Street, Cortez, Colo. 81321
