Rita Jeanne Burke

RITA JEANNE BURKE A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Cortez resident, Rita Jeanne Burke will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, February 18 at the Anasazi Restaurant. Rita was born on September 11, 1930 in Houston, Tex. the daughter of Thomas Marshall and Gertrude (Johnston) Ouzts. She passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2005 at her home in Cortez, amongst her family. Rita was 74 years old. Rita worked as a supervisor for VanKamps Bakery for 37 years. She was also very active in her community. Rita was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 87, League of Women Voters, Community Correction Board, Democratic Women and Friends of the Library. Surviving Rita are her daughters, Marian Rodd and husband, Jim of Cortez, Jo Anne Roach and husband, Chris of Frisco, Tex., and Kathleen Burke of Arcadia, Calif.; and her step-son, Bobby Burke and wife, G.G. of Boise, Ida. She leaves her sister, Marion Buckingham and husband, Ken of Payson, Ariz.; her 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, and another due in April. Preceding her in death were her parents. Rita requested that no flowers be sent but instead that donations be made in her memory to Hospice of Montezuma at 1345 S. Broadway, Cortez or to the Cortez Public Library at 802 E. Montezuma, Cortez.
