RICHARD ROBERT RISK Funeral Mass for Mancos resident Richard Robert Risk will be held at noon on Saturday, April 5 at St. Columba Catholic Church in Durango. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Richard was born in 1946 in Chicago, Ill. the son of Clement and Mary Catherine (Clarke) Risk. He passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez at the age of 61. Richard attended and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Niles, Ill. He went on to the University of Illinois, Chicago where he received a Bachelor degree in Economics. Richard furthered his education and obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. In 1984, Richard married Louise Theresa Stortz in Oak Park, Ill. He was an avid reader and history buff. Richard had a soft spot for animals, dogs and horses especially. Surviving Richard are his wife, Louise Lawson of Mancos; his children, Michael Risk of Seattle, Wash., Daniel Risk of Redwood City, Calif., Laura (Risk) Woods of Villa Park, Ill.; his step-daughters, Carrie Koenen and Valerie Lawson, both of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren; and his siblings, Joan Jung of Woodstock, Ill., Patricia Klima of River Forest, Ill., Susan Schnieder of Indianapolis, Ind., and Clement Risk of Dallas, Tex. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the local branch of the Colorado Search and Rescue.
