RICHARD "DICK" PERCY HUMPHREYS Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident Richard "Dick" Percy Humphreys will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 17 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel with Reverend Sharon Strauss officiating. Interment will follow at Dove Creek Cemetery. Dick was born May 27, 1919 in Wichita Falls, Texas to John and Louise (Fox) Humphreys. He died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at his home in Dove Creek, Colo. He was 91. In 1920 Dick and his brother, Jack, accompanied their parents to Llanfair, Wales, Great Britain to visit their grandparents. They stayed ten years returning to American in 1930. Dick married Ruth Davis in Buena Park, Calif. on February 28, 1941. In 1947, the Humphreys family moved to Colorado and settled southwest of Dove Creek. Dick was a life-long farmer and rancher. He welcomed the irrigation project, planting his last crop of beans at the age of 89 and baling his last crop of hay at age 90. He was noted for his Hereford cow herd. He was a 60 year member of the Grange and served on various agriculture committees during his life time. Surviving Dick are his wife of nearly 70 years, Ruth Humphreys of Dove Creek; their children, Hazel Perkins and husband, Delano, John Humphreys, and Sarah Fury and husband, George all of Dove Creek; three granddaughters, Annette Mantlo and husband, Todd, Charlotte Forst and husband, Matt, and Melinda Spaur and husband, Zach; and four great grandsons, Bradley Mantlo, Tyler Mantlo, Andrew Mantlo and Mason Forst, with a new great grandson to be born on February 24; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Dick in death are his parents; his brother, Jack Humphreys; and his two sisters, Joan Maley and Margaret Gay Etchandy. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Richard "Dick" Humphreys with the Dove Creek Ambulance Fund, PO Box 474, Dove Creek or the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
