RENA JO TODD

On Friday, November 15, 2019, Rena Jo Hatfield Todd, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96.
Rena was born June 3, 1923 in Dove Creek, Colorado to Charles Orlando Hatfield and Inez Martin Hatfield in the family’s dugout cellar on their farm. She had a little box for her crib, and one of her earliest memories was riding the plow horses for her father at the age of four and making mansions in the sagebrush with her siblings. She attended the two-room schoolhouse in Dove Creek and wore dresses made of flour sacks from the mill. During the winters the family moved to Roll, Arizona for her father’s health where they picked cotton.
She graduated high school in Dove Creek in 1942 and went to work for the OPA during World War II, responsible for giving out ration books and supervising distribution of goods in Dolores County. She then worked as a Court Clerk in Dove Creek, where she met Robert Edwin Todd, the man she would marry December 30, 1947 in Gallup, NM.
To this union was born two children, Robert Kyle Todd of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., and Janice Marie Toles of Lewis, and her other daughter Debbie Boyd of Lewis. In addition to her children, Rena is survived by her 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and counting, and one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by two siblings, Celesta Mykel of Texas, and Charlie Hatfield of Dove Creek. She was preceded in death by her siblings John Martin, Paul Martin, Zena Whitener, Pearl Maxwell, and Lucille Meyers, and her husband Robert.
Rena accepted Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized at the Baptist church at Dove Creek. She served Christ faithfully all her life, and left a legacy of faith and prayer for her family who knew her as ‘Grandma Jo’. She was very proud of all 31 of her favorite grandchildren, and her heritage as a Hatfield descended from those who feuded long ago.
