October 22, 1925 — May 17, 2014

RAYMOND DOYAL EITEL Graveside inurnment services for Raymond Doyal Eitel will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 at the Cortez Cemetery. Ray, a humble and "to the point" man, wrote the following as his obituary: "Raymond was born October 22, 1925 at Bettie, Texas the son of Rufus and Evie (Smith) Eitel. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II and Korea. On January 25, 1947 Ray married the love of his life, Doris Virginia Booth in Magnolia, Ark. A son, Ron, and a daughter, Rita, were born to this union. After college, Raymond worked for W.B. Ferguson Construction, taught school in Dolores, sold cars for Bob Gabriel Chevrolet and finished his working years selling for Joe Keesee at Keesee Motors. Raymond retired a little early to take care of Doris, who came down with Muscular Dystrophy. She had a fear of having to spend her remaining years in a nursing home. Thank God this did not happen. After buying a handicap van, with the help of Joe Keesee, they could be seen out almost every day. Steve Walker and Gerald Francini saw that the van was properly rigged for her wheelchair. Good Friends." Ray leaves to mourn his passing, his son, Ron Eitel and wife, Connie of Peoria, Ariz.; his daughter, Rita Galyon and husband, Louie of Cortez; grandchildren, Richard Knippers and wife, Desiree of Evanston, Wyo., Randy Eitel and wife, Denise of Farmington, N.M., and Barbie Duckett and husband, Nate also of Farmington, N.M.; great grandchildren, Dillon Knippers of Evanston, Wyo., and Hannah and Ethan Duckett of Farmington, N.M.; his brother-in-law, Buddy Booth and wife, Ann of Magnolia, Ark.; and niece, Nancy Hearne Isham and husband, David of Teaque, Texas. Preceding Ray in death were his wife, Doris Virginia (Booth) Eitel; parents, Rufus Eitel and Evie (Smith) Renfrow; father and mother-in-law, Loyd and Lettie Booth; brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Lillian Hearne; and niece, Donna (Hearne) Enloe. Ray passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the age of 88. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Raymond Eitel with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
