RAY LESTER WARD Funeral services for lifelong Dolores resident Ray Lester Ward will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 13 at the Cortez First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Summit Ridge Cemetery. Pastor Anthony Maez will officiate. Ray was born on April 2, 1928 in Rico, Colo., the son of Ray Lester and Nellie Ann (Wilderson) Ward. He passed away on September 7, 2007 at the Medical Center of Aurora at the age of 79. Ray married Guyrene Boren on September 25, 1955 at the Dolores United Methodist Church. Ray was a lifelong heavy equipment operator and was the owner of Ray Ward Trucking. He loved time spent in the mountains snowmobiling. As a younger man, Ray raced snowmobiles. He was also a member of Four Corners Trail Club. In his free time, Ray liked riding A.T.V.’s, boating, and camping. He was happiest with his friends and family. Surviving Ray are his wife of 51 years, Guyrene Ward of Dolores; and his children, Leslie Sesler and husband, Tim Hovezak of Dolores, Lisa Worrell of Cortez, and Ray Mitchell Ward and wife, Vonda of Dolores. He also leaves behind his siblings, Margaret Hover of Lakeview, Sally Rash of Cortez, Doris Koppenhafer and husband, Dean of Cortez, and Gary Wheatland and wife, Pam of Escondido, Calif.; his grandchildren, Greg Hovezak, Kristen Bertram and husband, Travis, Tyler Quintana, Brittni Ward, Jessica Worrell, Brandon Ward, Mikenzie Worrell, and Brooklynne Ward; his great-grandchildren, Braydon Bertram and Eadyn Bertram. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Marjorie Reynolds; and a great-grandson, Joseph Quintana.
