QUINTEN L. SWOPE Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Quinten L. Swope will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 31 at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Reverend Erika Meyer will officiate. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Quinten was born on November 6, 1923 in Hotchkiss, Colo. the son of George Newton and Anna Louise (Patterson) Swope. He passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction at the age of 84. Surviving Quinten are his wife, Lillian “Billie” Swope of Cortez; his three children, Kathleen Swope and husband, Chris Millican of Midland, Tex., Quinn Swope and wife, Ann of Dolores, and Kirk Swope and wife, Ginger Black also of Dolores; and by five grandchildren, Andy and Christina Swope, Tristen Black, and Grace and Neiko Martinez. Quinten was preceded in death by his parents and by an older brother. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Quinten L. Swope with the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123-1718.
