PRESTON EDWARD AKIN Memorial services for lifelong Dolores residence Preston Edward Akin will be held at 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 31 at the Hollywood Bar in Dolores. Johnny Wesch will be officiating. Preston was born on June 12, 1941 in Dolores to the late James Preston and Mary (Olson) Akin. He passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at his home in Dolores at the age of 64. Preston worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. During his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing; horses were also passion of his. Surviving Preston are his children, Dale Akin and wife, (Ann), Darcy Akin all of Cortez, Debbie Valerio of Dolores, Deryle Valerio and wife, Lisa of Green River, Wyo., and Denise Neely and husband, Rick of Yellow Jacket; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Lynelle Rule and husband, Jack of Farmington, N.M., and Jack Akin and wife, Carol of Dolores. Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Edena Akin; and his sister, Marjorie Akin. Memorial contributions can be made in Preston’s name at the Dolores State Bank.
